Gas mask is a kind of personal special labor protection equipment, is also a soldier protective equipment, worn on the head, to protect people’s respiratory organs, eyes and face, to prevent poison gas, dust, bacteria, toxic and harmful gas or steam and other toxic substances injury of personal protection equipment. Gas mask according to the protection principle, can be divided into filter type gas mask and isolation type gas mask.
The filter type:
It consists of a mask and a canister (or filter element). The mask includes the body, eye window, communicator, breathing valve and headband (or helmet). The filter canister is used to purify toxic gases and contains a filter layer and adsorbent. The two materials can also be mixed to make a filter plate and assembled into a filter element. The lighter canister (about 200 grams) or filter element can be connected directly to the mask, and the heavier canister is connected to the mask through the airway.
Isolation type:
Oxygen is provided by the mask itself, which can be divided into three types: gas storage type, oxygen storage type and student oxygen type. The insulated mask is mainly used in high concentration of contaminated air (volume concentration greater than 1%), or in special occasions such as high altitude, underwater or closed chamber where there is no oxygen.
In addition to the above two types of gas masks, many countries are equipped with a variety of special gas masks. It is based on the filter gas mask to replace the suction agent in the filter canister or improve the local structure. Modern gas masks can effectively protect against toxic agents, biological warfare agents and radioactive dust that may appear on the battlefield. Its weight has been reduced to about 0.6 kg, can be worn for more than 8 hours, wearing the gas mask can also be more convenient to use optical, communication equipment and weapons.
